A new £250 million scheme to crease a new shopping centre in the Broadmarsh area of Nottingham’s City Centre move forward this month.
It will house a cinema, brand new shops and also a restaurant and leisure complex. The road layouts will have to be changed, this will include new car parks and bus terminal.
So where can I park?
Now that the old Broadmarsh car park has closed, shoppers won’t be able to use it’s 1,150 spaces. The Council has yet to confirm a new date for it’s closure but we expect in to be in July 2018. The Sherrif’s Lodge car par (which sports 100 spaces) just off Canal Street is one of two new car parks that are available. Another car park, named ‘Broadmarsh East’ which is also just off Canal Street will be the site of Nottingham’s College’s new skills hub and will house 180 cars. At the moment drivers are being sign posted toward the Arndale, St James Street and the Nottingham Station car parks.
The redevelopment of the shopping centre (intu Broadmarsh) will be a modern destination for people to eat, shop, socialise and relax. The cinema will also bring fantastic entertainment for all the family. These new and exciting developments will cost an estimated £250m. If accepted by the council the building will include 1,397 parking spaces – almost 250 more than the previous car park. There will also be electric charging points on each floor.
The new bus station, car park and shopping centre complex will feature solar panels on the roof, so it will generate and use its own energy. A mix of natural and mechanical ventilation will ensure a circulation of clean air in the building for its customers.
