Nottingham Carnival Celebrates Caribbean Heritage

Nottingham city decks up every year in August to host Nottingham Carnival to celebrate its Caribbean culture with an extravagant display of colourful costumes, boisterous music and dance. The event was not held for several years in the 80s and 90s due to a shortage of funds. After 1998 when Tuntum Housing Association, a community-based, black-led housing association, agreed to set up the required infrastructure, they revitalized the festival.

In 1999 the event was re-established when Nottingham Carnival Trust (an unincorporated voluntary association). The Nottingham Carnival is almost exclusively dependent on volunteer support, chaired by Tuntum Chief Executive Officer Richard Renwick MBE. Administrative support is provided through Tuntum Housing Association.
